Jam (but no bread)

The Red Lion was full for the latest jam, partly because it was a Bank Holiday weekend. But some of the crowd were there for the music, and we hope they were encouraged to return for the next jam on Sunday 1st June at 8pm. We have lined up a full rhythm section for next session whose sole aim is to support soloists on any jazz tune they can confidently lead on. It helps everyone if you post you probable choice of tunes here in advance, although you can change your mind later, we are flexible. (Tip: I suspect we shall be asked to play Sidewinder every week until we get it right). Come along whether you want to play or not, there is an interesting range of local beers available. PS Post some sort of response please, it gets very lonely out here in the aether.

  1. Looking forward to the next jam and am already practising, yet again, "Sidewinder"!
Next time I shall hope to be playing "Autumn in New York", probably as a solo effort and would like to have a go at "Corcovado", too, with any others who might want to join in.
    Anybody fancy "Ornithology"?

  2. We’ve had good attendances, but some of our occasional supporters may have forgotten the blog URL. I hope this comment will help them to find this blog using search engines.
The Red Lion Jazz Jam takes place at the Red Lion Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, near Wallingford, Oxfordshire at 8pm on the last Sunday of each month.

  3. Sorry, that should have said FIRST Sunday of each month, not last.

  4. I've added a link to this blog from the Links page of my website, www.BrianThroup.co.uk so hopefully one or two stray surfers might find it. I enjoyed the last jam looking forward to 1st June.

  5. Previously recommended tunes which we haven't tried which I'd like to have go at are gone with the wind and miss jones. Ornithology is another good tune, though I'll need to to do some work on that if I can hope to play it convincingly. See you all on sunday
