Sunday 16 March 2008

Thanks to all who played and listened at the March jam at the Red Lion, Brightwell cum Sotwell . Musicians and supporters seemed to enjoy it, and some even said so, which is rewarding. The current plan is to meet on the first Sunday of each month, ready to start at 8 pm. We finish at 10. This blog should make it easier for you to check on forthcoming Red Lion Jazz Jams. You might even want to post some titles you want to play next time. If you are reluctant to lead, you might still want to join in. Here’s what we played last time. Some of these are likely to get called again:- Route 66, Shadow of your smile, Fly me to the Moon, My Funny Valentine, There will never be another you, Straight no chaser, Autumn Leaves, Blue Moon, Blue Bossa, Honeysuckle Rose, September in the Rain, All of me, Glory of Love. Not groundbreaking avant garde stuff, but we aim always to perform from memory, but enjoy a fluent performance by minimising the paper on the stand. The next Jam will be on April 6th at 8 pm. Check http://www.redlion.biz/ for information about and directions to the pub. If you’ve got news about the jam planned in Marston, or the reopening of The X, or any other jazz news, please post it here.

  1. This sounds great - I'll link you from our site. We have the Reading Jam as well on the first Wednesday of every month at the Wellington Arms. Please see www.jazzjam.wordpress.com for details.

  2. Hi Pete, the successor to the Exeter Hall jam will be convened at The Jack Russell in Marston - open to all musicians - starting on 31st March and then monthly until further notice. Rythum section will be as the X (me bass, Martin Pikett keys and Larry Reddington on drums). Hope to see you and all freinds there. Paul Jefferies

  3. Hi Pete and the guys, a good start last time, let's hope we manage to keep it going. I would like to have a go at sidewinder next time and also four, if you're up for it?

  4. Hi everybody!

Looking forward to Sunday. This time I'd like to have a go at "Sweet Sue" (in honour of our hostess), "Have you met Miss Jones?" and "Gone with the wind", if at all possible and if there is time.

Great night at the Jack Russell on Monday, also, by the way.
